Overview

Acuity, Inc. seeks a Kong / API Gateway Surge Engineer to support authorized, time-bounded implementation, migration, automation, validation, integration, troubleshooting, and stabilization activities for a large federal Enterprise API Gateway environment. This role provides product-specific surge support for Kong and comparable enterprise API gateway capabilities when additional capacity is needed to support approved target-platform objectives. 

 

The Kong / API Gateway Surge Engineer helps accelerate approved gateway implementation, migration waves, developer portal configuration, CI/CD/GitOps touchpoints, observability integration, defect resolution, and knowledge transfer. This role works within approved architecture, security, infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, and release processes to deliver documented, validated, and accepted surge outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, configure, integrate, validate, troubleshoot, and document Kong or comparable enterprise API gateway capabilities for approved surge activities 
  • Configure gateway services, routes, consumers, plugins, policies, certificates, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, logging, telemetry, and environment promotion patterns 
  • Support developer portal configuration, API catalog capabilities, API documentation workflows, access request patterns, and self-service onboarding enablement 
  • Support accelerated API migration wave preparation, gateway configuration, validation evidence, defect resolution, rollback readiness, and dual-run troubleshooting 
  • Develop and validate EAG-side CI/CD, GitOps, configuration-as-code, and automation touchpoints within approved pipeline and release processes 
  • Integrate gateway capabilities with approved identity, network, monitoring, logging, incident-management, change-management, and observability processes 
  • Support AppDynamics, ELK, OpenTelemetry planning, dashboard inputs, log flow validation, telemetry checks, and operational visibility for surge activities 
  • Troubleshoot surge-related issues involving gateway configuration, plugins, policies, routing, certificates, connectivity, identity integration, telemetry, and migration defects 
  • Provide technical office hours, knowledge transfer, configuration documentation, surge status inputs, validation evidence, and completion artifacts 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience 
  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise API gateway implementation, configuration, automation, migration, integration, or production-readiness activities 
  • Hands-on experience with Kong, Kong Gateway Enterprise, Kong Konnect, or comparable enterprise API gateway products 
  • Experience configuring gateway services, routes, consumers, plugins, policies, certificates, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, logging, telemetry, and environment promotion patterns 
  • Experience supporting developer portal configuration, API catalog capabilities, API documentation, access request workflows, or self-service onboarding enablement 
  • Experience supporting API migration waves, dual-run operations, validation evidence, defect resolution, rollback readiness, and cutover support 
  • Experience developing or integrating CI/CD, GitOps, configuration-as-code, reusable automation, or gateway deployment-support artifacts 
  • Experience with observability integration, including AppDynamics, ELK, OpenTelemetry, dashboards, log flows, telemetry validation, or comparable monitoring tools 
  • Experience troubleshooting gateway implementation, migration, plugin, policy, routing, certificate, identity, connectivity, or telemetry issues 
  • Strong written communication skills for surge documentation, configuration evidence, runbooks, status inputs, validation materials, and knowledge transfer 

Clearance Requirement 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain U.S. federal suitability
